CURRENT SITUATION OF HOMEOPATHY IN TURKEY

Currently homeopathy is not legally recognized nor is it regulated by the Turkish Ministry of Health. According to the World Health Organization guidelines and their definitions of T/CAM (Traditional and Complementary Alternative Medicine) only the practice of acupuncture is regulated in Turkey. And only the practicing medical doctors are allowed to apply it to their patients with having proper certifications and qualifications. Though homeopathy is not regulated the physicians preserve all the rights to treat their patients at all means, which conversely allows the physician to practice homeopathy in this case. One of the main problems we battle is the inconveniences of not having the freedom of accesibility of the homeopathic remedies. And the other main problem we face is the exponentially increasing numbers of medical doctors claiming to practice homeopathy without the proper training in classical homeopathy.
In 2003 a classical homeopathy association was founded by a group of health care providers that consists of medical doctors, dentists and veterinarians whom one way or another has training in classical homeopathy. Currently we have thirty members spread out through two main c?t?es, Istanbul and Izm?r. One of the main objectives of the association is to educate the public as well as the medical profession in the education and the practice of the classical homeopathy. Also the association offers guidance for the recognition and the regulation of classical homeopathy in Turkey. With this purpose at hand a packet, which consists of laws, by-laws and the constitution has been handed to the Department of Health Ministry.
Currently we have adapted the educational program of InHom (European Institute of Homeopathy) in Germany. Recently we have started the seminars, which consist of the series of courses from A to F with the assistance and the guidance of educators from abroad..
The Turkish Ministry of Health has provisions on the need and the practice of the T/CAM in Turkey. Therefore as of 2007 they will be discussing the regulation of the World Health Organization defined T/CAM's.
